The Basilica of Bom Jesus is a very famous attraction, being a UNESCO World Heritage site. The construction of the church was commenced in 1594, and was consecrated in May 1605, with the consecration being done by the archbishop, Dom Fr. Aleixo de Menezes. The Basilica is famous because it contains the body of the Saint Francis Xavier (who was a close friend of the founder of the Society of Jesus, St. Ignatius Loyola). The Basilica is one of the oldest churches of Goa, and of India.
