This is a photo taken from what must be the biggest bridge in Interlaken, a Bridge over the rivulet in Interlaken. It’s a fairly small bridge, with 2 traffic lanes and a cycle/pedestrian lane.

Tip (Framing): Frame the scene so that it contains an object that will become the center of interest - doing this draws the viewer’s eye to the picture

This is the sunlight shimmering on the water of the rivulet in Interlaken. The sunset provides a chance for the sun to show at a greater angle to the water surface, and produces a mugh higher level of shimmer. Can look real beautiful.

Tip (Manipulating ISO for low light conditions): If you have a situation where the lighting conditions are bad, and a flash will not help (and you have no other access to improve lighting through artificial means), then you should use the ISO setting. Increasing the ISO setting helps in increasing the level of light in the photo, but with a cost. As you increase ISO, noise level in the photo increases.

This is a rivulet (fed by mountain water) that runs through Interlaken. It contains a fair amount of water, and separates Interlaken into 2 parts (not equal parts though).

Tip (Lighting in a landscape): Getting the quality of lighting right in a landscape photo can make the difference between whether it is a great photo or a good photo (or even a poor photo). To repeat, lighting is perhaps the most influential attribute of a successful landscape. If you have the patience or the sense of timing to wait for lighting that is soft, or dramatic, or slightly diffused, or very sharp, it usually pays off in a memorable photograph.

This is a section of Interlaken after you head across the Bridge from the railway terminal side. These are small roads, with mostly cyclists or pedestrians walking on them, and with very litte vehicular traffic. At this time, we saw a horse carriage carrying excited tourists.

Tip: (Camera safety in case of rain): While rain can cause great pleasure in a photograph, you need to be sure that the necessary precautions have been taken. Most cameras are not water-proof, and you really need to be sure that you are not exposing your camera to rain water (and that also means that you should avoid dropping you camera inside water).

Tip: (Using natural lines): Nature presents many geometrical shapes that we can use to our advantage. Fields or rivers can be show straight lines, clouds and water bodies can represent curves, and so on. You should experiment with shooting some of these geometrical figures present in nature, and make them a part of your shots.

This is a photo of Bodeli Bar in Interlaken. This is on the side of the bridge away from the main side of the town. However, it is always impressive to see the level of beauty in such photos.

Tip: Frame the scene so that it contains an object that will become the center of interest - doing this draws the viewer’s eye to the picture.

A photo of sunlight behind a mountain and over water in Interlaken. The water shimmers, the sun is mostly in silhouette, and the sunset orb is a white spot. I keep on thinking that the photo needed a sharper sun, rather than the white blob that is the sun.

Tip: Taking a photo when you are shooting a subject that is in the full glare of the sun, and your camera is also pointed in such a way that the sun is directly visible from the lens means that you are taking a huge risk that the light of the sun would cast a shadow over everything else, and features of the other objects may not be visible. See whether you can take the photo from an angle.

This photo was taken in Interlaken, with the sun appearing behind the clould and sort of lighting up the clould. It looks beautiful, and would have been even better without the large pole like structure in front.

Tip: When taking a photo of a scenery, try and ensure that difficult structures such as wires, poles, etc are not visible in the frame. They look bad, and reduce the overall beauty of the photo of the structure.

Interlaken is one of the start points of the cruise on Lake Thun. You can take a cruise here from the morning till around 5 PM, and the cruise to the town of Thun takes around 2 hours.

Tip: You are in a place with hills, lakes, buildings, and so on, and you get a strong feeling to capture everything in one photo. However, too many objects in one photo can make it appear crowded, and detract heavily from the beauty of the individual items. Be more selective in deciding on the number of objects in your photo.

The train station of Interlaken West is where trains from Zurich and Berne first arrive, and is a pretty small station with 2 platforms. It looks wonderful, and seems totally empty.

Tip: Sometimes when taking a photo train tracks, the temptation is incredible to stand in the middle of the tracks and take a photo of the parallel tracks. However, this should only be done with the utmost caution, and preferably, not at all.
